George F. Nolde III, 61, has been named president and CEO of Anderson & Strudwick, Inc. For the past five years he has managed the Richmond Branch of the Richmond-based, employee-owned, regional investment firm.
In making the announcement, Chairman Don Newlin said that after three years of rapid growth in clients, branches, employees and revenues, the board believed that it was time to focus on development and integration of the new entities. |

It is in the best interest of our clients and our owners to ensure that we continue providing our high quality of products and services and the long-term profitability necessary to sustain them,” said Newlin. “George's strong business background, coupled with his experience in dealing directly with clients and the investment professionals who serve them, makes him the ideal person to lead Anderson & Strudwick at this time.”
Nolde replaces Mark Hamby who had been the architect of the growth of Anderson & Strudwick from a Virginia firm with offices in Richmond, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and Norfolk, to a regional firm with additional branches in North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Massachusetts. Hamby has left the firm.
In speaking of his predecessor, Nolde told his fellow owner employees, “ We are saddened that a man of such energy and creativity will no longer serve Anderson & Strudwick with his talents.”
He added, “ we were and are very pleased to see the great progress we have made in the course of the past three years in growth of staff in both numbers and professionalism, in raising our profile in the many communities in which we operate, and in the dramatic improvement in revenues.”
He went on to say “2006 will be a year of filling our branches with investment professionals, right-sizing our administrative staff to meet the needs of our brokers and clients, and growing our profitability.”
Nolde, who holds a degree in finance from University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, joined Anderson & Strudwick in 1993 after founding and growing ENTRE Integration Services, an information technology firm headquartered in Richmond, into a company with locations in three states.
“My hobby was the stock market,” he said, “so when I had the chance to pursue this interest on a full-time basis, Anderson & Strudwick offered me the best situation in which to exercise my financial and entrepreneurial interests.”
He previously worked in the area of investor relations for First & Merchants Bank, and as an operations analyst for Interstate Bakery, the company that bought his family's Nolde Bakery in the 70s. Prior to that, Nolde rose to Captain in the U.S. Army, where he served as comptroller of the NATO hospital in Brussels.
Nolde and his wife Deane, a computer expert and homemaker, have two sons, G. Frederick and M. Paul, who both are pursuing careers in the field of finance.
