Richmond, VA – Joan Y. of Richmond, was selected winner of the Jet Blue Airlines tickets from more than 1,000 entries in the drawing held by Anderson & Strudwick in conjunction with the Ukrop's Monument Ave. 10 K. A&S President George Nolde presented Joan with the tickets, and several other items at our offices today.
Joan, who asked that her last name and photo not appear on the web, walked the 6.2 miles, her first time as an entrant in an event that boasted 20,000 runners and walkers and an estimated 60,000 spectators. Joan's son, a middle school runner was also a first time entrant, finishing long before his mother.
See race story and photos "For years, we watched he race from our front porch (near the 3 mile marker) and this year decided to get off the porch and participate," she said. "Finishing the race was great, winning these tickets makes it very special."
She said she filled out her entry at the Anderson & Strudwick booth at the Dasani Health and Fitness Expo at the Ashe Center during registration
"We all sign up for these things," she said, "but we never expect to really win. In fact, I often though that no one really won, companies were just collecting names so they could try to sell me something, but now I can say that yes, people do win!" .
